Client

The Haydn Green Institute leads on creating a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation at the University of Nottingham. It provides undergraduate and postgraduate courses for learners looking to develop a career in business and management, alongside exec-level programmes for senior leaders looking to advance their business operations.

Having developed a globally recognised model for creative problem-solving, Ingenuity, the organisation approached Cloud Enterprise, to transform this model into a scalable online service.

Brief

The Ingenuity model is built upon over 20 years of entrepreneurship education, research, practice and competitions within the Haydn Green Institute. It harvests the collective intelligence of teams and creates a space where everyone contributes to solving organisational challenges. The model is used to teach students and business execs; however, the model requires a trained facilitator to guide learners through the process.

The University of Nottingham commissioned Cloud Enterprise to develop the process into a scalable online innovation tool that the institute could deliver without a facilitator globally.

Approach

Cloud Enterprise collaborated with the institute to understand the barriers to delivering the model at scale, working with the team to map the process across its three core steps: Define, Discover and Determine. We developed a detailed understanding of the tool and created user journeys based on the various stakeholders involved in a problem-solving task.

Central to our approach was to create a simple user interface that would not present a barrier for casual users, regardless of the complexity of the model itself. We considered this in detail as we took the wireframe user journeys into the application design. Finally, with the process replicated and the design templates prepared, our team built the tool with ongoing input from the institute.

Solution

Ingenuity Online (IO) now provides the Haydn Green Institute with a means of delivering the service to businesses and organisations beyond the physical confines of Nottingham University. Its simple interface ensures the tool is easy to pick up, even for the least technical user. Now the institute can deliver the service without a facilitator, the audience for (and therefore commercial opportunity around) IO has grown significantly.

The institute has subsequently retained Cloud Enterprise, as it shapes this commercial offer, and we are currently developing the client-facing digital strategy and assets to promote the service.
